LYOTO MACHIDA VS JON "BONES" JONES - UFC 140 UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is set to make his second title defense against Lyoto Machida, not against Rashad Evans as previously believed, according to ufc.com."Alright Toronto!!! Dec 10th UFC 140 tix go on sale next weekend and ur main event is Bones Jones vs Machida!!!" said Dana White, UFC president, through his twitter account. Both Jones and Machida have verbally agreed to fight one another. Jones recently dispatched Quinton Jackson at UFC 135 via rear naked choke, successfully defending his title for the first time and is currently riding a five fight win streak. Machida last defeated Randy Couture via front kick knockout at UFC 129 and will look to reclaim his title. As for Evans, the cause for his withdrawal from the grudge match is due to an injury he suffered from his previous fight with Tito Ortiz at UFC 133. "After my last fight against Tito Ortiz, I dislocated my right thumb, which required it to be set back in place and held with pins. 24 hours ago, my physician removed the pins. At that time, I learned that it would require another three weeks of rehabilitation before engaging in any exercise or training that would require the use of my hand," said Evans in a statement he released on Thursday. The Jones vs. Evans title fight was one of the more anticipated match-ups, pitting two former teammates with bad blood to boot, but would now have to delayed at least until 2012 assuming that Jones holds on to his title. "Given the rehabilitation time I require for my dislocated thumb, I would not be 100 percent ready by December 10. The UFC has to keep making fights that entertain the fans. I would have done the same thing as Dana in his position. I'm asking for the fans to support me as I rehabilitate my hand, and I promise I will be back fighting very quickly," added Evans. UFC 140 is expected to be scheduled on December 10 at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The Jones vs. Machida light heavyweight title match is to headlined, complemented by the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir rematch in the co-main event. |

| CARLOS CONDIT: THE UFC IS JUST DELAYING THE INEVITABLE, I'M GOING TO GET THE TITLE SHOT Poor Carlos Condit. After working his way up through the ranks of the welterweight division, the Greg Jackson trained fighter was awarded a title shot against reigning division deity Georges St. Pierre at UFC 137. Of course, that was only after Nick Diaz flaked on a few press conferences and was punished for insubordination. Still, if any fighter was worthy of taking his spot, it was "The Natural Born Killer." Then the following sequence happened: Diaz was matched up against B.J. Penn, St. Pierre hurt his knee, the fight was postponed, Diaz vs. Penn was moved to the main event, Diaz smashed Penn, Diaz called out St. Pierre, "GSP" asked to fight him instead and Condit was pushed out. Got all that? Good. Reports quickly came out that Condit, nice guy that he is, had "stepped aside." This was not the case. Here's how he explains it: "The thing about it is the decision was made before I was even contacted. It wasn't really... I didn't really... The decision wasn't mine. Things happen. This is a bump in the road but I'm excited for my next fight. It doesn't knock me too far down the ladder. ... It's just delaying the inevitable. I'm going to get the title shot." |
VITOR BELFORT VS. ANTHONY JOHNSON SET FOR UFC 142 Just one day after UFC 142 was announced as the UFC’s latest event in Brazil featuring featherweight champion Jose Aldo vs. Chad Mendes, another Brazilian will be making a homecoming trip to Rio de Janeiro on January 14.Former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort will welcome welterweight slugger Anthony “Rumble” Johnson to the middleweight division for the event that is expected for the HSBC Arena, which also hosted UFC 134 in August. Belfort (20-9) last fought in Brazil at the UFC’s most-recent visit before UFC 134 in 1998, knocking out Wanderlei Silva in under a minute. After fighting for a number of notable promotions, “The Phenom” returned to the UFC in September 2009 with a win over Rich Franklin then challenged fellow Brazilian Anderson Silva for the middleweight title in February, but suffered a first-round KO. He was previously scheduled to welcome Cung Le to the UFC at UFC 139, but withdrew from the event due to injury. Johnson is also a longtime UFC veteran with ten fights inside the Octagon all at welterweight. Johnson has struggled cutting to 170 pounds on a few occasions, missing weight by as much as 7.5 pounds in 2007. At 6’2, he is taller than even most middleweights, so he will not be giving up much size with his move up. It has not been announced whether this is a permanent move to middleweight, or a one time trial for Johnson. Both fighters won their most recent fights less than three minutes into the first round. Belfort knocked out Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 in August in just 1:52, while Johnson stopped Charlie Brenneman with a head kick in only 2:39 at UFC on Versus 6 in October. UFC 142 has just one other official matchup, as Aldo defends the UFC featherweight title for the third time against Mendes. |

Did you know that RJ is a writing contributor for Fight Magazine? Did you know he hosted a radio show on ESPN 710? Did you know he currently hosts a radio show on Sirius? All of that while still remaining active in the MMA fight scene? Yeah it's unbelievable, I know.. Well.. he also has a huge back catalog of interviews he's done with professional MMA fighters and key figures in the sport. Check it out here.. P.S. When I grow up I want to be like RJ |

CARLOS CONDIT DISAPPOINTED, BUT HOPEFUL SHOT @ GSP COULD STILL HAPPEN SOON. It’s a slippery slope in the fight world. When a champion goes down due to injury, what does the challenger do? Should he stay on the card and take a short-notice change in opposition, risking his status as the top challenger, or should he sit on the sidelines and wait for the champ to return?Such was the question posed to Carlos Condit on Tuesday when UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre had to back out of their UFC 137 title showdown due to a knee injury. UFC president Dana White announced St-Pierre’s withdrawal via his official Twitter account. |

I know I fought a legend, Randy Couture, and I want to put on a great show in December”. The Brazilian bets on his experience to overcome Jones, who’ll be doing his fourth bout in 2011, the third worth the title. “It’s hard to say, but I believe I got a little advantage on the experience matter”, affirmed, aware of the skills of his opponent, who has defeated Shogun and Rampage, only two fighters to ever beat Machida. “I must overcome that with my techniques”. |

DANA WHITE AGREES WITH THE STOPPAGE It was a dominant performance for Anthony Johnson – one that moves him a big step toward a potential title fight with welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. But it also came with a bit of controversy. However, following Johnson's first-round destruction of Charlie Brenneman at Saturday's UFC on Versus 6 event, both Johnson and UFC president Dana White downplayed the supposedly controversial stoppage. "I agree 100 percent with that stoppage," he said. "He was on crazy legs before the kick to the head happened. And again, there's a fine line between stopped too early and stopped too late, and I'll takes stopped too early every time. I thought he was hurt before the kick to the face. |

Rogerio Nogueira needs a win on his return to UFC, on December, against the former champion Tito Ortiz, after two consecutive losses. As an incentive, the guy who fights out of Bahia will have his twin brother, Rodrigo Nogueira, on the same card, against Frank Mir. Training hard for 140, Rogerio analyzed the trainings, the bout against Ortiz, commented on the rematch between his brother and Mir and also talked about the duel between Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida, comparing the styles of Jones and Anderson Silva. Cheick Kongo knows Saturday's UFC 137 co-main-event win over Matt Mitrione wasn't a signature or highlight-reel win that dazzled fans, but it served its purpose.
This weekend's UFC 137 event features a key clash in the welterweight division, but it will not determine the next challenger for Georges St-Pierre's championship belt.
Cheick Kongo has been fighting MMA since 2001 compiling a career record of 16-6-2 in the sport since. He is hoping that experience will help carry him past Matt Mitrione when the two heavyweights meet in the co-main event of UFC 137 Saturday night from Las Vegas, Nevada.
